NEW YORK, N.Y. – Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local 1 and Local 7 endorsed Rebecca Seawright, Democratic candidate for the 76th State Assembly District in Manhattan’s Upper Eastside and Roosevelt Island.

“I am extremely proud to receive the endorsement of the Bricklayers,” said Seawright. “Strong community-based trade and professional unions are the backbone of this city, and I’m proud to have the endorsement of the hardworking men and women of Local 1 and 7. I will be an advocate for working families – and against so-called Right to Work legislation that threatens to undermine unions, legislation which I strongly oppose. I will work every day to ensure that working men and women of New York City get the retirement benefits they deserve, as well as access to education, affordable housing, and quality health care.”

Today’s announcement is the latest set of labor endorsements of Seawright, with the Bricklayers joining a series of highly regarded prominent labor leaders including 1199 SEIU, 32BJ SEIU, AFL-CIO, Central Labor Council, Communications Workers of America (CWA) District 1, Communications Workers of America (CWA) Local 1180, DC37, Council of School Supervisors and Administrators (CSA), Local #46 Metallic Lathers Union and Reinforcing Iron Workers, Local 1010 Pavers and Road Builders, New York Professional Nurses Union (NYPNU), NYC Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association, New York State Public Employees Federation, New York State United Teachers (NYSUT), Retail Grocery Store Union, Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU), United Automobile Workers (UAW), United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America, Social Workers (NASW), and the Working Families Party (WFP).

The democratic primary is on Tuesday, September 9th.
